Making your own homemade graham cracker crust is quick and amazingly easy. The ingredients are minimal and easy to keep on hand for whenever the mood to make a pie hits you.
You’ll need graham crackers (or graham cracker crumbs), granulated sugar, brown sugar, unsalted butter, and cinnamon (optional).
To prepare your own graham cracker crumbs, either pulverize the graham cracker sheets in a food processor or place them in a large ziplock back and use a rolling pin to crush them into fine, sandy crumbs. I’ve used both methods, and one works just as well as the other, although with the food processor it’s definitely easier and faster to attain the consistent crumb consistency you will want for your crust.
Add the sugars, melted butter, and optional cinnamon, and blend together until the crumb mixture is well-combined and looks slightly damp throughout.
Transfer the crumb mixture to your pie or tart pan, and press the crumbs into the bottom of the pan with a pastry tamper, or the bottom of clean glass or measuring cup. Press the crumbs up the sides of the pan, tidy up the top edges, and pop it into the oven to bake for about 10 minutes.
Generally, you’ll want to make your pie crust as the first step of your recipe, so the crust has time to cool while you prepare the filling.

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Step 2
Pulverize your graham crackers in a food processor, or place them in a large ziplock bag and use a rolling pin to crush them into fine, sandy crumbs.
Step 3
Add sugars, melted butter and cinnamon (optional) to the graham cracker crumbs, and pulse your food processor until the mixture is blended. You can also toss everything together in a bowl using a fork. The crumb mixture should be well-combined and look slightly damp.
Step 4
Transfer crumb mixture into your 8” or 9” pie pan or tart pan, and press them tightly into the bottom of the pan. A pastry tamper or the bottom of a clean glass or measuring cup works well for this. This recipe will also work for cheesecake in a 9” or 10” springform pan.
Step 5
Using your fingers, press the crumbs firmly all around the sides of the pie pan, and tidy up the top edges.
Step 6
Bake at 350° F for 7 – 10 minutes. Cool.

I live in New Zealand where they don t have graham crackers, so I substituted whole wheat digestive biscuits. It turned out better than any store-bought crust I ve ever had!
